With the annual Winter Assembly this Friday, the Associated Student Body (ASB) has been grinding countless hours away in hectic planning and preparation.
Each school assembly is diligently organized by ASB’s Assemblies Commission, which includes Krystal Le (‘16), Sarah Wallace (‘17) and Cody Do (‘18). The three ASB members began their planning for the Winter Sports Assembly three months prior, first working together to brainstorm ideas for a fun theme, and incorporating the winter sports captains and student performances. The commissioners also wrote and finalized the assembly’s script, a process that took three weeks.
Once the details were worked out, they made sure that everyone involved, including sports captains, performance groups, coaches, and teachers, knew exactly what they’re doing and when rehearsal dates were.
The days for rehearsal are determined by the Assemblies Commission, and are then finalized by Josh Lamar, Assistant Principal of Activities. They faced some complications in scheduling this year, as the school gym was unavailable to use, so rehearsals took place in the bowl instead. ASB members, Color Guard, Drumline and winter sports captains showed their school spirit and dedication and rehearsed well into the cold night, as well as Baron Broadcast News (BBN) who have been working to perfect the video and technical side of the assembly.
Behind all of the glamorous music, dance choreographies and student/teacher performances in FVHS assemblies are hardworking students who scramble and grind countless hours away.
“It is a lot of work,” Do said. “Assemblies is a very strenuous job but in the end it is really worth it to see everything we’ve accomplished.”
