Valentine’s Day seems to be popularly viewed as a day that is meaningful only for couples. As local stores fill their aisles with candy and cards, all of my fellow single people out there appear to be crawling further into their beds to continue binge watching their favorite TV shows on Netflix.

“It’s like another day passing by if you don’t have a significant other,” An Hoang (‘16) said when asked about her thoughts on this upcoming holiday.

But wait a second! Who says Valentine’s Day can only be celebrated by couples? Here’s my personal advice to everyone who is upset over not having a significant other this upcoming V-Day: don’t be! Valentine’s Day is a universal time for all of us, not just couples, to show love and affection for those we hold dear to our hearts. In the business of our daily lives, it’s easy to forget to remind these special people how we feel, so a national day devoted to giving love is the perfect opportunity to take a moment to tell someone: “Hey you. Thanks for being in my life. I appreciate you.”

Here’s a BBN clip of Barons reminding their family that they love them!

Succumb to Valentine’s cheesiness—get a heart-shaped box of chocolates with a note scribbled with that one famous Forrest Gump quote; or think outside of the box and get arts-and-crafty—you do you!

Do whatever the heck you want to do, as long as you get to spend time with your loved ones.

Have a great Valentine’s!
