Last week, Fountain Valley High School (FVHS) Pep Squad showcased their routines from this past season, which included routines from both school assemblies and competitions. Guest performances included Fulton Middle School Cheer, Junior All American Barons, Hudson Dance Academy, and Macy Hoeft from FVHS Dance Team.
The show was split into two categories: cheer and dance. The first half started off with Varsity Cheer’s competition routine and ended with Junior Varsity’s competition routine. In between the routines, Fulton Middle School cheer and Junior All American Barons, a cheer program for kids ages four to 14, performed their routines.
The second half of the showcase included all of Varsity Song’s pieces. As fillers, dancers from Hudson Dance Academy and a soloist from the FVHS Dance Team came to perform as well. The show ended with the raffle winners and a short finale act.
Over the past year, the cheer and song team have improved and grown a lot in their team bonding and skills.
“They’ve grown closer and have improved their technique/tumbling, and stunting skills have improved vastly,” said Tara Bearden, FVHS Pep Squad Director.
The Lady Barons worked hard, and it paid off as the showcase was a big success.
“They’ve been cleaning and revisiting these routines for the past month…and it ended up being a really successful fundraiser. Everything went really well” said Bearden.
As they come closer and closer to the end of the season, the process of auditions begin again for new and returning members. One intention of the showcase was to encourage students who are interested in trying out.
“I hope they audition because they saw a very professional ran show. The girls looked great, they’re a great team, and it’s a great program…I hope they see a program they really want to be a part of,” said Bearden.
Pep squad clinics are from April 18 to April 20 at 3:30-5:30. Auditions are on April 23 at 1:30. People who have experience with dance or cheer are encouraged to try out.
“I’m excited to see who auditions and what kind of talent we bring in. We are looking to advance our talent next year,” said Bearden.
In this past year, the FVHS Pep Squad qualified for nationals and the Varsity Song team made finals, make this year a successful one for the teams.
“I’m really proud of the girls. They’ve had a very long year and they’ve worked very hard. They deserved what a great show they had, ” said Bearden.
