After four years without executive associated student body (ASB) elections, students will be given the opportunity to elect their executive ASB representatives.
The students who are in the running for executive board positions are Juniors Carly Perri, Samantha Zimmerle, Timothy Shimizu, Tracy Nguyen, Sarah Wallace, Matthew Gemeinhardt, Michelle Nguyen and Sophomore Cody Do.
According to ASB President, Elena Mosham (‘16), each candidate has submitted a one-minute speech that would be played during Baron Academic Time (BAT) tomorrow. On Wed, April 27, online voting will begin until 9 p.m on Thurs, April 28. Throughout this time span, candidates will be
officially campaigning around schools with a limited number of flyers and posters.
On April 29, the five candidates who won the most votes will be announced and the outgoing senior executive board will then decide which position is most suitable for each candidate. The positions available consist of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Parliamentarian.
Assistant Principal of Activities, Josh Lamar, worked with the 2015-2016 senior executive board to come up with a process that provides the student body with a voice in executive board selection.
In order to be considered for an ASB executive member position, a student must apply. After, select students are picked and interviewed. There were 12 students who were chosen to interview. From those 12, eight students were allowed to campaign and deliver their speeches during BAT.
“I am excited to have elections back as a part of the executive board selection process and I hope that students will login and vote,” said Lamar.
