The Coronets Awards Ceremony for the 2015-2016 school year was celebrated at the Huntington Beach High School Auditorium on May 26 and awarded students for their excellence in 16 different school subjects.
The Coronet Award is Fountain Valley High School’s highest honor, and is awarded in every subject area. In order to qualify, students have to first be nominated by the subject department. To be nominated, a student must first complete an application for each respective subject made available on the school’s website. Once applied and accepted as a nominee, the student is then invited to the Coronet Awards Ceremony. At the ceremony, the finalists for each subject category are announced. Then from the pool of finalists, a winner is selected.
A student may only win one Coronet Award per year, but may be nominated and become finalists in more than one category.
The winners of the Coronet Awards in their respective subjects are listed below.
- World Languages: Christopher Meyers (’16) for Spanish, Gina Le (’16) for French, and Tara Nguyen (’16) for Japanese
- Vocal Music: Morgan Parker (’16)
- Social Science: Aileen Nguyen (’16)
- Publications: Kristie-Valerie Hoang (’16)
- Business: Shane Shubin (’16)
- Consumer and Family Studies: Leah Williams (’16)
- Instrumental Music: Kevin Takeda (’16)
- Performing Units: Anna Loeffelman (’16)
- Language Arts: Anthony Nguyen (’16)
- School Service/Leadership: Elena Mosham (’16)
- Mathematics: Leandra Doan (’16)
- Theatre Arts: Madeline Schultz (’16)
- Visual Arts: Noah Carr (’16) for 2D and Kaitlyn Hancock (’16) for 3D
- Science: Sahil Sharma (’16)
- Girls Athletics: Kennedy Hood (’17)
- Boys Athletics: Blake Vasquez (’16)
Those who became finalists in either two or three subjects were in addition recognized with the Dual or Triple Finalists award. Dual finalists were Kristen Law (’16), Dominic Cao (’16), Annie Ngo (’16), Sara Tran (’16), and Maggie Bui (’16) and the Triple Finalist award was awarded to Lucy Nakashima (’16).
The highest honor of the night is the Prix d’Honneur, which is given to one female and one male student. At this year’s Coronets Awards ceremony, the Prix d’Honneur award was given to seniors Kristie-Valerie Hoang and Sahil Sharma.
