For many seniors this year, it is about getting to that time where they need to be preparing for their college essays. As an aid to all the students applying to either a University of California (UC) and or California State University (CSU) this year, we have compiled a timeline of events before and up to the application date for students to use as a guide in the application process.
For the UC applications:
August 1 – Applications were opened.
September 30 – Students should decide which colleges they are applying to and begin working on their essays.
October 1 – Students can begin filing out their FAFSA and possible Cal Grant information. Both of these are essentially to make sure you receive financial aid.
October 5 – Students should decide which 4 of the 8 essay prompts they will be responding to for the personal statement section of the application.
October 25 – The essays should be completed or being finalized.
November 1 through November 30 – UCs will begin accepting applications and students should be putting their finishing touches on their applications and submitting them.
December 31- Deadline for taking the SAT or ACT.
For the CSU applications:
August 1- Applications were opened.
September 30- Students should decide which CSUs they will be applying too.
October 1 through November 30- CSUs begin accepting applications and students should be filling out their applications and submitting them to the college of choice.
February 2- Deadline for taking and submitting SAT or ACT.
Applying to colleges can be an difficult and stressful process, so be sure to consult Michaela Wakeman in the college and career center after she returns on Sept. 28, or talk to your counselors in the office about the right path for you.
