The Associated Student Body (ASB) Executive Board oversees ASB itself as well as the rest of the school. They also work closely with the administration to provide a great experience for Fountain Valley High School (FVHS) students.
In the past few years the executive board has been interviewed and hand-picked by Josh Lamar and previous year’s executive board. This will be the first time in three years where FVHS has had an elected executive board.
There are five executive positions on ASB consisting of a president, vice president, treasurer, secretary and parliamentarian.
ASB President Carly Perri (’17), oversees all events put on by ASB and finalizes important decisions with the rest of the executive board. Throughout the week, Perri administers official meetings and instructs the ASB class of 31 students.
“I am the person that each commission goes to for the approval of new ideas and help construct all events and activities that we create. I also communicate regularly with the activities director Mr. Lamar to help give student opinion to decisions being made within the administration of FVHS,” said Perri.
In previous years, the Vice President (VP) has always been to assist the president when needed but this years VP, Tracy Nguyen (’17), plans to run things differently.
“I wanted to bring a new aspect to ASB. I didn’t only want to be leaders on-campus, but also off-campus. Thus, I find volunteer events for the entire group to attend. In addition, I am responsible for Share the Love week this year with the help from our lovely Student Culture commission,” said Nguyen.
ASB is always putting on school events such as assemblies and dances. To help raise money to hold school events the Treasurer, Timothy Shimizu (’17), plans and organizes school wide fundraisers to pay for the expenses.
“My goal is to raise enough money so that we have sufficient funds to help pay for the DJs at the dances, more props for assemblies, and more ink and paper for Bell Week,” said Shimizu.
Shimizu also oversees all finances in the school, approves bills and is the guardian of the ASB account.
Once the treasurer has approved bills, Secretary Cody Do (’18), checks up on them to make sure that events or payments have been executed. Do also records meeting minutes and information for every official meeting held.
” I [also] oversee ASB attendance at any game or ASB event that we have to go to,” said Do.
Parliamentarian Sammi Zimmerle (’17) is in charge of leading Senate, a leadership group for the school and community. Senate helps ASB put on every event hosted by ASB such as the bell week and other assemblies.
“The ‘Senators’ are a vital part of ASB. Without them, we would not be able to finish things as quickly or efficiently. I am so excited for this upcoming year with each and every one of them. We are trying a bunch of new things this year and I can’t wait to see what they can create with it,” said Zimmerle.
