Over the summer, Fountain Valley High School’s (FVHS) volleyball program got a makeover, starting with the hiring of a new head coach.
Rebecca Turose, former junior varsity coach at Calvary Chapel High School and returning coach at Ohana Athletic Club, has shown her dedication by improving aspects of the girls volleyball team.
“Our Lady Barons have done a phenomenal job at adapting to my coaching style. We run a faster, more aggressive offense with understanding defensive roles. Our serving has improved of being more of a weapon as has our blocking on defense,” said Turose.
The first step to success in anything is trust and dependability. Turose and her new coaching style has been well received at FVHS by the team, fellow coaches and administrators.
“Everyone here on campus has welcomed me as the new head coach with positivism and excitement for the girls volleyball program. I have had a great synergy among many other coaches and our AD (Athletic Director) Denis, has been leading up a culture that values athletics, here at Fountain Valley High School,” said Turose.
Turose’s dedication for volleyball brings a new level of discipline while also bringing new heart and spirit to the team.
”I believe in a high standard of effort, coachability, heart and passion for the sport by putting your team’s needs above your own in consent of acts of selflessness everyday, practice or game. I will hold them accountable to our new level of standard of play, and they will hold me accountable to upholding that same effort level investment and leadership,” said Turose.
Turose understands the expectations placed on her and is prepared to rise to the challenge. Already, she’s showing what it means to be a Baron.
“FVHS will expect me to coach with selflessness doing everything I can to lead these young ladies to success. I will work harder than any coach to find out what each girl needs and styles she needs to be coached. I develop leaders, I train athletes to win and coach a championship mindset,” said Turose.
Turose isn’t only concerned with what we expect from her. She also has expectations of FVHS.
“I expect FVHS to rise to the occasion to support not just our program, but all athletic programs. We want FVHS to see the capability of athletics to change the culture of FVHS in our community,” said Turose.
