On Tuesday Oct. 11, our girls varsity field hockey played against Newport Harbor High School. Despite their best efforts after some devastating losses against other schools, they lost against the Sailors with the score of 0-2.

Players Cameron Petus (‘17) and Sophia Rivera (‘17) stood out in their plays and advancements on the field.

The game started out with the girls fiercely defending and aggressively as Rivera persistently remained focused on offense. Rivera attempted to score with multiple drives and center passes.

The game began to escalate as the Sailors attempted numerous times to score. The Lady Barons defended persistently, Cameron Petus (‘17) maintaining a strong defense as the rest of the team was there for support. However, despite the team’s mighty efforts, Newport Harbor successfully scored two points by halftime.

By halftime, spirits ran high as the Lady Barons remained discouraged by the two points.

Regardless of the determination of efforts of the team, the Barons were not able to score anymore points, leaving Newport with the win.

After this loss, the Barons realized they have a lot of potential left in them.

“There is a lot of communication and passing and moves and we are trying our hardest to get a goal,” said Takara Tucci (’18).

The varsity field hockey has been struggling due to the lack of strong players due to their injuries. Hopefully, they will be strong by the end of the season.
