Last Tuesday, Fountain Valley’s girls tennis team won against Edison with a score of 15-3, followed by a win on Thursday against Marina 11-7. They’re still undefeated going into the second half of season, and a lot can be expected out of these girls, ready to leave a legacy.

Against Edison, No. 1 singles Hanh Pham (’18) and No. 2 singles Katie Ho (’17) won all three of their matches, Pham winning 6-1, 6-0, 6-3 and Ho winning 6-1, 6-1 and 7-5. No. 3 singles Sharon Chen (’18) lost her first match, so she got subbed in by Charisse Vu (’19), who lost the next two matches. However, FV’s loss ends there.

Doubles dominate in all their matches, winning all nine out of nine. No. 1 doubles Vikki Nguyen (’18) and Clarissa Htay (’17) won their matches 6-3, 6-0 and 6-0. Htay’s powerful overheads and aggressive net plays were notable.

No. 2 doubles Brianna Lau (’17) and Aozora Ito (’18) won their matches 6-2, 6-1 and 7-6. In their third round, both sides’ scores were close, but the Barons were able to finish the tie breaker without giving any points to the other team. No. 3 doubles Jane Nguyen (’17) and Kayla Korhonen (’17) won 6-4, 7-6 and 6-1.

The Barons won 11-7 against Marina, a tougher game than Edison. Pham won all three matches and Ho won two out of three matches. Chen lost all three matches.

The doubles side was able to win six matches total. No. 1 doubles Vikki Nguyen and Htay won all three 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1. No. 3 doubles Jane Nguyen and Korhonen played well, winning two out of three matches. No. 2 doubles, Ito and Lau, had a rough start in the first two matches, but were able to finish the last one strong with a win of 6-2.

“Aozora and I had a pretty shaky start against both schools but we managed to pull through and win,” said Lau.
