It’s Bell Week at Fountain Valley High School. With the highly anticipated bell game coming Friday, October 28, the Associated Student Body (ASB) has been been trying to spread school spirit with their annual posters celebrating the Barons. This year however, unexpected weather brought some complications.
“Nothing like this has happened before in the last few years. We were set back two full days because of the rain and nearly had to change all our plans and not hang up any murals,” Tramy Duong (17′) on ASB said.
Fortunately, ASB was able to get the posters up and make sure the school looks its best before Bell Week.
Another possible issue associated with Bell Week posters is the playful jeering on the posters is sometimes taken out of context and has been known to offend people. In a previous Bell Week a poster that used women who don’t shave their legs as an insult caused a controversy between ASB and the students.
“Bell week is supposed to be for the school and to unite the students and get them pumped for the bell game, not to cause any problems or hurt anyone. If there are any issues, please just let an ASB member know and we will gladly fix it,” Duong said.
ASB wants the student body to understand that Bell Week is meant to be something enjoyed by students, athletes and staff alike. For this reason, they work hard to assure that everyone enjoys the festivities.
“Bell week is definitely my favorite week of the year. I can’t get over the wonder in every student’s eyes when they see the school covered in posters,” Duong said. “Bell week is entirely for the staff and students and it’s been a tradition for years because this week embodies the amount of hard work, passion and pride that the students have in FVHS. It’s things like these that make Fountain Valley as great as it is.”
