Last week, the varsity girls tennis played in the Sunset League Finals on Wednesday and Thursday where they performed fantastically and managed to become a champion for both singles and doubles tournament. In addition, doubles no.2 Aozora Ito (’18) and Brianna Lau (’17) placed third in the doubles division.
In the singles division, Hanh Pham (‘18) became the champion three years in a row, winning all her matches with an amazing score, and in the doubles, Katie Ho (‘17) and Clarissa Htay (‘17) came out victorious as the champion of the doubles division.
After her first day of playing, Pham said, “The other schools show a lot of passion, but I believe that FV could end up winning league in singles and doubles,” and her words came true at the end. Both singles and doubles worked extremely hard, and was victorious in their matches.
Especially, Ito (‘18) and Lau (‘17) left surprising results. They first started playing together this year during preseason, and they didn’t have as much experience compared to the other teams. However, despite this fact, they won against their rival schools such as Newport Harbor, and finished with a third place in League.
Ho (‘17) and Htay (‘17) played well, winning against their rivals including Los Alamitos and Newport Harbor, winning their final match 6-4, 6-2, showing their strength.
“Getting first place in Sunset League for doubles was very exciting for me. I feel Katie and I have worked very hard for the last couple years to reach this goal and I feel accomplished getting 1st in Sunset League. Like all my hard work throughout my years playing on the tennis team has finally paid off,” said Htay.
With this tournament, the varsity girls tennis team ended their Sunset League, and the only thing they have left in the season is the CIF, taking place this week. The girls played extremely well, and all their hard work throughout the years have left them amazing results.
