It was revealed last week that there would be a winter assembly before break created by and featuring the performing arts programs. However, due to numerous complications, it has recently been announced that the assembly has been cancelled.
This would have been the first time an assembly at Fountain Valley High School (FVHS) would be performed by only the performing arts classes: band, choir, orchestra, theater and dance. The assembly was dedicated to show appreciation of these performing arts by showcasing to the students.
“The department needed more time to provide a showcase atmosphere and after discussing with them, it would be decided it would be postponed until April when the department would have more of an opportunity to showcase the show they want to bring,” said Assistant Principal for activities and athletics, Josh Lamar.
The Winter Assembly was scheduled for a scary Krampus themed performance by Drama, Winter classics by Choir and a full ensemble by Orchestra and Band performing “Sleigh Ride.”
Many were relieved that it was cancelled.
“I don’t really have any feelings towards it. [Orchestra students] feel a little relieved. It is nerve wracking playing in such a large audience,” said the orchestra’s Concert Master, Matthew Pombo (‘19).
Others were extremely disappointed that the assembly had to be cancelled last minute because they were ready to showcase their talents.
“If we’re not sure how [the assembly] is going to look right now, are we going to be putting forth the best performance?” said Robert Zick Jr., theater teacher, on his thought of the cancellation of the assembly. “I was particularly disappointed for my theater students who were trying to put together a cohesive show; they were ready. I was also a little bit relieved knowing that they don’t have to kill themselves on making this happen.”
