Fountain Valley High School (FVHS) varsity boys basketball fought against their rival school Edison on Friday, losing the match 34-66 despite their great efforts.
The major factors that led to this loss were most likely Edison’s advantage in height combined with the many missed shots from Fountain Valley during the first half of the game.
“They’re just a bigger, tougher team, and they’re better than us. We just didn’t execute as well,” said senior varsity basketball player Adam Trounce.
Despite this, Fountain Valley put up a good fight especially towards the end of the match, where they were able to score 28 points in an attempt to make up for the six points scored in the first and second quarter.
The game started off rough as the Barons only scored two points throughout the whole first quarter in contrast to 21 points from Edison, who made a series of 3-pointers that boosted the team’s score.
In the second quarter, their struggles continued as they made many near misses while Edison kept scoring, ending the quarter 6-39, making it difficult for Fountain Valley to catch up.
After the valuable five-minute break from half time, the Barons started the game off quick with a clean layup from Sean Huynh (’17), gaining momentum from this shot as they scored 13 points in total in the third quarter while Edison only scored 12.
The players fought hard in the last quarter as well, scoring 15 points whilst Edison scored 14, but in spite of their energy in the last quarters, the Barons were not able to catch up.
“It was a tough loss, we missed a lot of shots. We’re going to get them next time,” said Trounce.
The next game will be against Marina High School this Wednesday at 7 p.m.
