Hey Seniors, Just a reminder FAFSA and the Frank M. Doyle Scholarship are both due on March 2nd!! The National Charity League Scholarship deadline is March 3rd. Don’t miss out on these opportunities.

Attention Students: THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT THE 2017 CORONET AWARDS. Coronets Awards are considered out school’s highest honor. Applications for the Coronets Awards are now available on FVHS.com. Students who would like to be nominated for a Coronet award should fill out the Google form available online. All applications must be submitted by no later than Sunday March 19, 2017 at 11:59PM.

Yearbook is selling Senior Salutations to celebrate our graduating class. Half-pages are being sold for $200 and full pages are $300 until March 10th. Photos on a CD, instructions, and messages can be sent to Donald Langford in room 404. More details and the submission form can be found on fvhs.com.

The Huntington Beach Adult School will be offering summer school for students who need to make up a class for graduation or for college eligibility. Students may enroll up to 10 credits at no cost. Summer school will begin June 19 and will end July 27. Registration starts today! Please see Mrs. Wong during lunch for course list, class time, and locations.

Congratulations to February Clubs of the Month: Friday Night Live and Make-A-Wish!

Congratulations to our Boys Volleyball team for getting first place this past weekend in the annual Tustin Tournament. The boys played great, outstanding players were Jake Loudenback, Luke Davis, Cody Newsome, Downey Huynh, Matthew Gemeinhardt, Ben Minch and Cameron Nakashima. Come out and support your boys in their upcoming games as it looks to be a very promising season.

The Barons Baseball team opened their season with two wins against El Modena HS. The Barons won 4-3 in the first game. Jared Brand, Isaac Campbell and Justin Yang combined to throw a no hitter and Justin Mazzone broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the 6th to put the Barons up 4-3. The Barons won the second game 6-2 featuring back to back home runs by Parker Smith and Conrad Villafuerte. The Barons begin the Loara Tournament this Thursday at Glover Field at 300pm against trinity league rival Santa Margarita.

Congratulations to our hard-working, amazing, Pep Squad Comp teams! They competed yesterday at the Long Beach Pyramid for King of the Bleachers where JV Cheer came in second place and Varsity Song came in first! Amazing job ladies!

Congratulations to Karson Ayres for qualifying for the CIF state meet next week! He will be competing with some of the very best in the nation so we want to wish him luck! Also congrats to Merrick O’donnell for a valiant effort and only needing one match to qualify. And also great job to George Sykes for competing this past weekend! Go Barons!

The track teams competed at the Mustang Roundup at Trabuco Hills HS on Saturday. Cora Davis had a strong start finishing second in the 100 meters. Courtney Moreno won the triple jump, Amanda May finished third in shot put and forth in the discus, and Ashley Faller finished 6th in the mile. Top newcomer Keely Togafau finished second in the shot put at the frosh/soph level. The boys were led by Nathan Willoughby finishing second in the 300 hurdles, David Straw finished second in the high jump and first in the triple jump, and Anthony Meneses finished forth in shot put and discus. Kishaun Sykes dominated frosh soph in the 100 and 200 meters.

Congratulations to Baron Banner, on Saturday they competed at the Orange County Journalism Education Association and brought home more than 20 awards!

It’s back…the 3rd annual VOICE of FOUNTAIN VALLEY, sponsored by our Vocal Music Program! Get warmed up for the craziest vocal competition around. The event will take place the evening of Saturday, March 25th…. with a special guest judge – Madilyn Paige, a finalist from Season 6 of The Voice, performing with team USHER and team BLAKE! Information will be posted on the school website on March 1st, with auditions due by March 10th. Get ready for some great music….maybe YOU are the next VOICE of FOUNTAIN VALLEY!

Justin Nguyen swept his singles matches and our doubles teams of Jonathan Dang & Vivek Savsani, Brandon Keller & Eric Tadros, Jason Tran & Marcos Nguyen won all their matches. Go Barons!

All students interested in taking AP Art History for the 2017-2018 school year please come to an informational meeting this Thursday February 23rd at lunch in room 301. Details of the changes in the program will be discussed.

Congratulations to the wrestling team for finishing top 8 and advancing 3 wrestlers to masters next week. George Sykes placed 6th, Merrick O’donnell placed 2nd and Karson Ayres became a 2x CIF champion and a 4x cif placer. Karson is also the schools only 4x league champion!

This past Sunday the dance team hosted a USA dance competition here on our campus with over 20 other high schools In attendance. The event was a huge success for FVHS! Our teams competed as well and all 3 hip hop teams, small lyrical and jazz have now qualified for the championship division at USA nationals.

The Dance Team is hosting a USA dance competition here in our campus this Sunday, Feb. 19th. There will be over 20 schools participating in many categories, including solos, jazz, lyrical, character and Hip Hop. This is a great opportunity to see our own FVHS dance team perform and compete with the other schools. The competition is from 8am to 7pm and tickets are $10. Good luck dance team!!

Congrats to our own Academic Decathlon team for cleaning up at the county level over the weekend! After battling their way into Division 1, the team was able to come home with an astounding 32 individual medals! Huge shout out to all team members! Great job!”

Our Hip Hop dance teams competed at The Miss Dance Drill Street Dance competition this past Saturday against the best hip hop teams in Southern California. Small HipHop placed third, and the medium team placed 1st! In the duet category, Heaven Cha and Tommy Nguyen Placed First! In the all male free style solo category, Tommy placed in the top 5! An amazing job by all performers.

Did your schedule change this semester? Are you now out of school before lunch or do you have an online period 5? You need a red ID card! Supervision is working on making cards this week. Please DO NOT come to Supervision until you receive a call slip from us. Continue to show your yellow ID and schedule when you leave campus at lunch.

Congratulations to the varsity boys soccer team with their impressive 6-2 victory over Newport Harbor. Ethan Mack scored his 10th and 11th goal of the season. Ulu Hammouri-Davis and Richard Montes started the scoring off with two quick goals in the first 3 minutes of the game. Andre Nguyen finished off the scoring with the barons 6th goal of the game. The win gives the boys a chance for the playoffs. Good luck

Congrats to Delaney Millican for scoring a 3rd place in both women’s longboard and women’s shortboard in the semi finals of the Sunset League Surf Finals!!!!!

Congrats to the Lady Barons Frosh and JV Basketball teams on an amazing victory over Newport Harbor this past Tuesday. Frosh won 41 to 4 and JV won 33-30. Varsity lost a close one, 40-34. All the girls put in a tremendous effort. Come out to Los Al tonight for their final game of the season; Frosh plays at 4:00, JV plays at 5:30, and Varsity plays at 7. Keep up the great work ladies.

Girls Soccer finished Sunset League competition yesterday. The ‘lady’ Baron JV squad had another strong defensive performance holding Newport Harbor HS scoreless in a 0-0 tie.

Congratulations to the Girls Varsity Soccer team for capturing their 4^th Sunset League victory in the last 5 games! Fountain Valley led 1-0 on Marissa Lynch’s strike. Newport Harbor tied the game but it was not for long as Kylie Wilson put the Barons ahead 2-1. Marissa then put the game out of reach for the Sailors with her second goal of the game making it 3-1. The defense did the rest and preserved the win! Great Job Barons!

Congratulations to all Future Business Leaders of America competitors at this past weekend’s Southern Section Leadership Conference. Special congratulations to the following FBLA members: Amy Shen 4^th place in Economics and 9^th place in Accounting; Kyla Alberto, 9^th place in Insurance and Risk Management; Wilny Duong, Matt Gemeinhardt, and Ashley Luu took 5^th place in Hospitality Management; Jasmine Pham and Cole Spalter, 2^nd place in Management Decision Making and Matt Gemeinhardt and Adam Mancini, who took 6^th place in Sports & Entertainment Management. Good luck at the FBLA State Leadership Conference Competitions in April!

Here are your morning announcements for Monday, February 6^th:

1 in 5 teenage girls who have been in a relationship said a boyfriend had threatened violence or self-harm if presented with a breakup. Wear orange each Thursday in the month of February as well as Valentine’s Day to show your support against teen dating violence. Tag your photos on social media to #Orange for love, #Love shouldn’t hurt, and #Human Options.

Track try outs continue tomorrow and Wednesday this week at 3:00pm unless there is rain. Athletes in Winter sports can come to track once their seasons are over.

Attention Seniors, are you interested in boosting your score on the Math Placement Test at Golden West College, OCC or Coastline Community College? All seniors planning to attend a community college are required to take the math placement test. GWC will be offering a free math workshop on FVHS campus after school from 3:00 to 4:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting Tues, Feb 14. Please see Mrs. Wong in the Administration building for more information or to enroll.

The College and Career Center will be hosting Grand Canyon University this Wed. Feb. 8th and Johnson & Wales on Tues. Feb 28th. This is a great opportunity to hear all these colleges have to offer, sign up in the college and Career Center. Also check out our website for the latest scholarship information!!

Come out to the Boys home basketball game tomorrow night at 7 to not only support our Baron boys, but to check out the halftime performance of our cheer squad and some of our amazing IDEAS students! They will be performing a routine together they have been working on for weeks. Come out and support these hard working students!!

Kaiser Permanente states that 40% of teenage girls age 14 to 17 report knowing someone their age who has been hit or beaten by a boyfriend. Wear orange each Thursday in the month of February as well as Valentine’s Day to show your support against teen dating violence. PALS will be selling “Love shouldn’t hurt” t-shirts today at lunch outside the cafeteria, and outside the gym before the basketball game tonight. They are only $10 so come check them out and show your support against teen dating violence.

Congrats to our wrestling team dominating the Sunset League Tournament last night. Your Barons advanced 12 wrestlers to CIF. The three Champions were sophomore, Jack O’Donnell, senior, Merick O’Donnell and finally 4 time Sunset League Champion Karson Ayres ! Great job Barons!

Our Lady Barons Frosh/Soph and JV basketball teams had another amazing victory over Huntington Beach last night. Frosh continued their winning streak by beating Huntington Beach 41 to 25. JV beat Huntington Beach 40 to 31 with outstanding efforts made by Nicole Wilson, Bao-Tran Phu, and Stacy Truong. Keep up the great work ladies.

Tonight is PACK THE GYM as Boys Basketball takes on Huntington Beach. To attend the dance, you MUST be in the gym by 7:15. Buy your presale dance ticket for $5 at the financial office or online at the student store or you can get one at the door for $8. Tipoff is at 7 PM, come out in your USA colors. It is also a detention clearing game. You must have your ID card, see you there Barons!! Food & drink will be sold.
