Barons’ Opinions on Packing the Gym again March 24, 2017September 15, 2020 kaitlynngo by Kaitlyn Ngo, Staff Writer Photos by Kaitlyn Ngo and Calvin Tran, Staff Photographers After the incident at the original Pack the Gym dance, Barons share their mixed opinions about the upcoming make up dance. “I feel a little disappointed because I lost my five dollars that I had paid for the previous dance. But I do think that it was a good idea for the make up dance to be free because now everyone can go and have a good time. It’s good that they rescheduled it, but I’m still sad I lost my money. Although I thought that it was a kind of unfair to those who had paid for the original Pack the Gym dance. I think that the situation at the Pack the Gym dance was a safety issue, but I feel that Dr. Smith and the administration handled it well. Overall I think it’s good that the school was concerned about the students’ safety first,” said Ishika Sinha (‘19). “It makes me happy to know that the school is hosting this make up for the students. I feel that it shows how the school cares to spread school spirit instead of just making us pay money. I think it’s fair and a good idea, especially for seniors since it’s the last dance before prom. It gives the students an opportunity to let loose and have fun one more time. I feel that the dance will be safe and secure. What happened before was a security precaution and that the school only has the safety of the students in mind. The school is trying to protect us from harm, so I think that it’ll be a great make up dance,” said Linh Doan (’18). I’m always excited for the dances. You get to hang out with your friends and have a good time. I feel that the make up dance is alright, but I feel that all the people that had originally paid for the Pack the Gym dance and game should get refunds. I know that people who bought tickets presale could go to the financial office and get refunds, but it wasn’t made clear how to exactly. I feel that the added safety precautions will definitely make the dance safe. I’m always excited for the dances, you get to hang out with your friends and have a good time,” said Bryan Noble (‘19). “I feel that the upcoming makeup dance is a good idea and that ASB and the school worked hard to put this together, but I think that not many people are looking forward to it. I’ve heard from many of my friends that not many are planning to go. Due to the last incident, some are hesitant to attend. Many parents are also worried about the safety of the dance too,” said Anthony Phan (’18). “I was actually kind of happy because I thought that they would cancel the entire dance. I was happy that my money wasn’t going to be wasted. I was a little disappointed when the original dance was canceled because I was really looking forward to having a good time with my friends. But as long as the dance is still going to be hosted, I’m fine with it. I’m not upset about the fact that refunds aren’t going to be given because we’re still getting a dance, and although we had to wait a little, I feel that it’ll be just as great. I’m not really concerned about the safety of the dance because whenever you step out your door, anything can happen. I feel that Fountain Valley High School is a safe place, so I’m sure it won’t happen again,” said Chris Drummond (‘20). “I feel that it was a great idea for ASB and the school to put on this dance for us. I was disappointed that the last dance was canceled after the entire incident with the gun, but I’m glad that this make up dance is going to compensate. I feel that it was a great idea for it to be free because it’ll attract more people and overall create a better atmosphere. It’s also good because it’ll be the last dance for us seniors before prom, so I like that we have one last dance to spend time with friends and have a good time. I’m not very concerned about the safety of the make up dance because I feel that Fountain Valley High School is a good place, and the people are good too. It was just a one time thing and I’m sure that the make up dance will be fun and safe,” said Dylan Sakamoto (‘17).
