This past week, girls’ tennis fell short, losing to both Los Alamitos and Newport Harbor High School by close scores of 9-9 and 7-11.
On Tuesday, no. 1 singles player, senior Victoria Nguyen, won all 3 of her sets. The no. 2 and 3 singles players, Viviane Le and Charisse Vu, each won one of their sets. Meanwhile, the no. 1 and 2 doubles teams, seniors Sharon Chen & Aozora Ito and junior Ivy Tran & senior Hanh Pham, each won 2 games. With an ending score of 9-9, our Lady Barons were extremely close, losing by only five games.
On Thursday, the team played a home game against Newport Harbor High School. On her first game back as a singles player, Hanh Pham dominated against all her opponents, adding three sets to the team’s score. Doubles team, Chen & Ito, and Nguyen each won an additional 2 sets, making the final score 7-11.
“This past week, we ended up losing both matches, but both of the schools had pretty tough competition. Our team definitely tried our hardest and I’m proud of the girls for trying to step up their game. It may not be a win, but it was a good experience to grow and get better from. There’s a bittersweet feeling knowing that my final season is ending soon after 7 years of dedication to this sport, but I’m excited to finish it off with amazing teammates”, said varsity co-captain, Victoria Nguyen.
