This year, Fountain Valley High School’s (FVHS) annual Spring Fest is taking place on two consecutive Mondays instead of the usual Friday evening. This change was implemented by administration to coincide with Eighth Grade Parent Night and allow prospective FVHS students to become familiar with the school.

“The school is hoping to create a positive environment [with] school spirit to attract the middle schoolers,” said ASB Club Commissioner Crystal Banh.

By separating the days, the school gives an opportunity to clubs on campus to hopefully make more money since a bigger crowd is expected.

“It’s a different group of people coming each day from the middle schools. It’s over 900 students and their families each day, and also you get the club people, their family and friends,” said Banh.

Although a bigger turnout is expected due to Eighth Grade Parent Night, the school does not know for sure if the event will be more successful since it will take place on a school night. The results from this Spring Fest will likely determine whether or not the schedule of two consecutive Monday nights will be permanent.

The alteration in days has received both positive and negative feedback from students.

“A lot of students don’t like it because it’s on a Monday, and the two days kind of take away the specialty of one Spring Fest,” said Banh.

Some students have also worried about the participation within their club. For example, Rotary Interact Club is only partaking in one day.

“I like it because it gives clubs the opportunity to bring in more revenue and help promote their club to incoming freshmen, but because it’s on a Monday, it’s hard for members to help volunteer for our booth,” said Delilah Cunneen, Co-president of Rotary Interact Club.

Attend FVHS’s Spring Fest this Monday and the following Monday from 4-8 p.m. for a night of food, performances and Baron spirit.
