RR: Seniors’ expectations vs. reality of FVHS June 4, 2018August 31, 2020 suzanejlelati By Suzane Jlelati, Staff Writer “My sister was here and I felt that I would be near her and be surrounded by what she’s doing. Before I was kind of introverted, so I felt it would be very, very intimidating on the social aspect and have social anxiety. I knew our wrestling team was very good, I actually joined freshman year. I heard academics were also really good. I feel like high school was a lot of what you make it, if you miss out on things- like I just joined choir this year and I’m very grateful for being in it- opportunities will just pass you by if you don’t take the chance to go for it. Yes, I think [Fountain Valley] is a great school, it has great teachers, great people, great staff, we have a lot school spirit, I really admire that.” Senior Zachary Baldridge“My expectations were I thought [Fountain Valley High School] would be really big and scary, I felt really intimidated about going to school and I thought I was going to be eaten alive by the seniors. I heard the school had a lot of AP classes and was really focused on academics and sports. [As a senior] the school was not as intimidating as I thought coming in freshman year. I really did see a focus on academics and I am participating in a lot of AP classes and a lot of other activities in school. I do [believe Fountain Valley High School is the best school], I believe that because we have a lot of good people, school culture and environment always makes me feel welcomed.” Senior Isaac Alkire“I heard Fountain Valley was very high in academics, so I really had expectations for the academics. I heard our arts were really good, like band, choir, and theater. I heard our sports teams were good at certain areas. I wouldn’t say one hundred percent [expectations have become reality], yes to what classes you are attending to and no because I didn’t really join any sports teams or anything, but I am in theater right now. Fountain Valley has its pros and cons, so I wouldn’t say that it’s fully great because every other school has their pros and cons so I feel natural about my school.” Senior Britney Pham “[As a freshman] I expected the school to be very warm and welcoming, offering a lot of opportunities for me. I did [hear about the excellence of the school] from my relatives. As a senior, I think that high school is what you make it and I did not make much of my high school. I believe our extracurricular activities and sports especially cost way too much.” Senior Vivian Le “I had [no expectations] for high school, I just heard there would be a lot of classes and a lot of people to meet. It really depends on who you meet and hang out with, it’s only as much as you make it out to be. [Fountain Valley High School] is amazing depending on what you do, there’s a lot of opportunities for you to succeed but it’s really all on you and how you want to succeed.” Senior Vivian Nguyen
