The Fall Festival at Saint Simon and Jude church (SSJ) has been a crowd-pleaser for 52 years now and an excellent way to raise money for the church and parish. Rides, games, food and professional photos of wildlife are available for people to enjoy.
The Fall Festival lands on the weekend of October 5 and is a celebration of joy and faith for the Catholic parish and the surrounding communities.
The food booths along with the game booths are all volunteer-run and haven’t changed over the years. The American, Asian, Hoagie, Italian and Mexican food booths serve tried and true cuisine and people still keep coming back for more for some delicious meals carnival style.
The ride lineup for the festival that fits in a field designated for the SSJ school for physical education and still offers a variety of enjoyment for all ages. The YoYo swing ride, Sea Dragon swing ride, Roundup, Zipper, Gravitron, Mega Loop and Sizzler are the higher thrill rides with the YoYo Swing being a new addition added two years ago.
When nights falls and the lights turn on, the Fall Festival comes to life and draws in very large crowds all three nights that almost certainly guarantees a long wait for those brave enough to go on the rides.
Coleman Hall has the annual fall bake sale, featuring homemade goodies made by members of the parish that you can get for a buck or under. Father Daniel, a photographer, has his pictures of wildlife on sale for those to buy along with coffee and other treats.
Games range from 25 cents to $3 or more. You can win plushies or even liter bottles of soda and live fish. The Fall Festival starts this Friday and SSJ’s 52nd Fall Festival is guaranteed to have some Barons at it.
