Finals are approaching soon. As much as that makes most of us cringe, it’s the sad old truth and we need to face the facts and prepare as much as we can. During finals week, it is safe to say that a lot of care for our bodies and minds are thrown out the window as we sacrifice a lot of time into studying. It’s easy to forget that your health should come before grades, so here is a checklist of self-care things you should try to do during finals week to make it more bearable!
- For every hour you study, take a 15-minute break. Don’t try to study for three hours at a time. Frying your brain over a subject won’t help so step away from it to take a drink of water, use the restroom, or close your eyes for 15 minutes to reset your brain and calm yourself down.
- Try to eat healthy foods. There is a lot of food that you can snack on that can increase brain power. These foods include walnuts, dark chocolate, blueberry, and more. Here are some You can snack on these as you study or take that 15-minute break.
- Sleep. If you’re still up at 3 a.m. trying to understand muscle contraction for physiology, you’re not going to. Get some rest and try again in the morning. Though having a sleeping schedule might be rare as a high schooler, it will help you this week so you’re well rested and prepared for that final.
- Hot/ Cold Showers. Baths during finals week take too long You’d be wasting good time, so take a shower! To relieve your stress, try taking a hot shower. To wake up, take a cold shower!
- Face Masks. After that quick shower, try using face masks to reduce stress pimples as you read or study for your next final!
- Tea. While coffee might be your go-to for quick caffeine intake, tea has a lot more benefits to studying. Green tea has been proven to enhance the brain’s cognitive skills, which include working memory. Plus, the hot tea will help you relax and not stress as much.
- Essential Oils. Essential oil scents like lavender, peach and violet leaf can reduce stress and calm yourself when you feel pent up and anxious for finals week.
- Spread the love! Everyone’s going through a rough time this week so make sure that they’re not alone! Make study groups, pack those brain power snacks and more.
Good luck on all your finals Barons!
