It’s one of the most important days of the year. Its where we celebrate life and the family it has given us. We take this day to give time to our dead ancestors and honor them by keeping their memory alive. We build altars with everything they loved to assure them we haven’t forgotten them and lay down trails of marigold petals to help guide their souls back to us.
This year I got the opportunity to introduce a huge part of my culture to everyone in BBN. With the help of Mr. Z I built an beautiful altar to give my peers a place where they could honor their ancestors this Day of the Dead. Seeing people bring photos and participating made me realize how this is not just a class but a giant family and that’s exactly what this day is about.
In Mexico we take time every year to remember all the hard work our passed loved ones put in so we could live the life they never got to. It’s a time to really be thankful for not just that but having a new chance every tomorrow to prove to our ancestors that it was all worth it.
Even if no one got to do that they still got a chance to experience a small piece to new culture and remember that no matter where someone’s soul is a small part of them will always live in yours as long as you keep their memory alive and keep living with extra a little zing.
