Many incoming freshmen got their first taste of FVHS this week at their Link Crew orientation. Here is what they said about their first impressions of FVHS, classes and clubs they were looking forward to and how high school compares to their middle school.
“I feel normal; no pressure. The school is very colorful. I don’t know what my classes are. [I’m not joining any teams or clubs] yet; I need to see how the teams are. I want to check out the weight room; my old school didn’t have a weight room. [FVHS] is a lot bigger [than my middle school]. I’ll get tired of walking,” said Huy Tran. “High school sounds fun… like the dances and I heard there’s a light party, but I’m not really happy about the tests and homework. [I’m looking forward to] fashion design. I joined the dance team; [I like] hanging out with the people because they’re really fun and I like performing. I thought [Link Crew] was fun; they were funny,” said Ciara Orna. “[High school] is neat. The people seem really nice and the fact that the school has spirit is also really nice. I’m just doing soccer. I’m excited to be taking art so I can pursue animation later in high school,” said Lola Ramirez. “I’m really excited to come here and hang out with friends. [I’m looking forward to] science, because I’ve always just liked science and learning about creatures and how to adapt to things, and English because I love English. I don’t really think I want to take any clubs the first year because I just want to take it easy and adapt… [compared to middle school] it’s really big and then it’s overwhelming but in a good way; it’s exciting,” said Alana Trujillo. “I’m ready. [I’m looking forward to] Spanish, because I have a lot of friends that speak Spanish. I’m playing on the basketball team because it’s my favorite thing to do. I look forward to having a bunch of friends that aren’t all in the same grade; friends from all the years,” said Elijah Nelson. “[Going into high school] is really overwhelming but it’s actually kind of fun. [I’m looking forward to] choir. I like singing a lot. I’m trying chess club… [and I’m also doing] golf. I tried golf in the summer and I really liked it. My brother went to this school, so I’m really looking forward to it. I really got to know [people in Link Crew] and it made me a little bit more comfortable. I’m looking forward to this year and I hope I have a good time,” said Benny Nguyen.
