On Thursday, the girls’ varsity field hockey team tied with the Westlake High School Warriors with a score of 2-2 in an exciting and close game.
The game began with Fountain Valley in possession of the ball, but the tides quickly turned when the Warriors scored the first goal of the game within the first few minutes.
Things looked bleak for the Barons, but the impending loss only invigorated them further. With a great team play, the Barons cleared the ball to junior Heather Erickson who advanced swiftly and scored a goal, bringing the game to a tie with a score of 1-1.
With high hopes, they continued to play hard and were able to gain possession of the ball with only minutes left in the first half. Great team work was displayed when senior Madison Grogan cleared the ball to junior Sam Josephson who scored their second point. The Barons ended the first half in the lead with a score of 2-1.
The second half of the game began with the Barons determined to secure the win. They fought hard with many advances to the goal, but were not able to score another point. Nonetheless, they controlled the ball for most of the second half, but ultimately lost possession due to a short corner. With the Warriors, now in control of the ball, they were able to score another goal, tying the game.
With minutes left, the battle for the win was intense, but neither team was able to make another goal, leaving the game tied with a score of 2-2.
“Overall, we played a good game. Our team really shines when it comes to working together, but I’m hoping that we can get even better movement on the field and improve at reading what our teammates will do next,” said Grogan.
