Beginning Sept. 29, students at Fountain Valley High School (FVHS) can register for their 2020 AP exams through the College Board website and Total Registration.
For the 2019-20 school year, students are now required to join their class section on My AP, register for their exam on the College Board website and pay through Total Registration before the deadline, Oct. 20.
Because registration has been moved to the fall, this may lead to concern for seniors signing up for their AP Macroeconomics or AP US Government test, depending on which class they’re taking second semester.
Seniors can sign up for either exam after winter break, and the same registration process will occur at that time.
“We’ll focus on that after winter break,” said Assistant Principal of Curriculum Josh Lamar. “Partly because the deadlines aren’t for a while for the second semester, but also because not everyone is going to know for sure that they’re in an AP second semester until towards the end of first semester, so we want to wait on that.”
Students who aren’t enrolled in an AP class, but still wish to take an AP exam offered at FVHS, can register by contacting Lamar.
“[Students] just need to email me or visit me, and I’ll set them up in College Board and get them registered,” said Lamar. “They can certainly do that, but they need to move quickly because time’s going to run out.”
The College Board decided to move the registration process to fall based on a 2017-18 study which tested the effects earlier registration had on exam scores. According to the College Board, the new process showed overall improvement in scores, but the benefits were more prominent for those considered underrepresented in AP, including minority students, low income students, and female STEM students.
