Fountain Valley varsity girls tennis played against Newport Harbor in the last game of their season and lost with a score of 5-10 on Monday.
Singles players sophomore Nghi Trinh, junior Jasmine Nguyen and junior Tiffany Hoang each won one match. Doubles players junior Kaylee Tran and sophomore Emily Tran and junior Paigo Ngo and Christy Chau won one match each.
“I feel like everyone put themselves out on the court as much as they could,” said varsity team captain Kaylee Tran.
Trinh won with a score of 6-3, Nguyen won with a score of 6-2, and Hoang won with a score of 6-4. Hoang came close, but unfortunately lost to number two singles falling short in the tiebreaker.
Kaylee and Emily Tran won with a score of 6-3, but struggled with number one doubles and unfortunately lost a tiebreaker. Paige Ngo and Chau won with a score of 6-2.
“Emily hit a lot of really good volleys today and I wasn’t serving too bad either,” said Kaylee Tran. To improve for next season, Kaylee Tran would like to improve her footwork to stay light on her feet.
Although the typical scoring is out of 18, this match was out of 15 because singles didn’t play the last round. Newport had taken 10 sets which guaranteed a win and with the sun setting, there wasn’t enough time or light to play another set.
Despite this being the last match of the season the team still has a long journey ahead with league finals coming up. Wish Trinh good luck as she heads to the semifinals this Wednesday at Corona Del Mar.
