Fountain Valley High School’s varsity girls tennis team played the Marina Vikings on Tuesday and were victorious with a score of 13-5.
Singles players, sophomore Nghi Trinh, junior Jasmine Nguyen, and junior Tiffany Hoang were able to win two matches each. Doubles players, junior Kaylee Tran and sophomore Emily Tran and junior Skylar Ngo and freshman Iris Chau won two matches each. Doubles players Christy Chau and Paige Ngo won all three of their matches.
“I feel pretty good about today’s match considering we won and everyone was playing well according to what I saw. It looked like we all had a good time playing and nobody was super down which is really what makes a team better,” said varsity team captain Kaylee Tran.
Doubles partners communicated and worked together to win the point while singles players were able to hold consistent rallies throughout the match.
“I look forward to just playing my best and getting to improve my game when we play against the good times like Corona del Mar because that gives me and the rest of the team a really good chance to get better by playing people that challenge us,” said Kaylee Tran.
The team would like to improve their footwork to stay light on their feet and be able to reach the ball better. They want to work on preparing and placing the ball to play smarter and focus on serves in order to lessen the amount of double faults on the courts.
“For the next match I hope to just stay focused and work on hitting all of my regular shots in, and not giving the opponent free points,” said Kaylee Tran.
Be sure to catch the Barons at their next home game against Los Alamitos this Thursday.
