The Popeyes Chicken Sandwich came out last August, and chicken-loving fans all over the country went crazy trying to get their hands on it. It sold out in less than two weeks. Now that it is back in stock, I finally had the chance to go grab this famous sandwich.
Many people claim this sandwich is better than the Chick-fil-A sandwich, but I wanted to see if that was true myself.
Popeyes only offers a simple sandwich with a couple of pickles, while the Chick-Fil-A sandwich is larger and contains more filling. Chick-Fil-A offers a deluxe sandwich, which contains tomatoes, lettuce and cheese, or just the classic sandwich with pickles and sauce. For this reason alone I prefer Chick-Fil-A’s sandwich better.
But what about the chicken filet itself? Popeyes sandwich lacks that phenomenal seasoning and delicious coating that the Chick-Fil-A sandwich specializes in. The Popeyes’ sandwich isn’t bad—it is simply overrated and not worth the enormous hype.
Not only that, but the service at Chick-fil-A and quality of food exceed those of Popeyes. At Chick-fil-A, the food is made fresh and instant. At Popeyes, the line for waiting was very long and the sandwiches were already prepackaged and prepared to meet the overwhelming load of requests. This made the chicken less crispy than it should have been and the flavors of the chicken died down. When I bit into the sandwich, there was no satisfying crunch that the Chick-fil-A sandwich has.
Getting the Popeyes sandwich was a hassle in and of itself. As I mentioned briefly, the line was extremely long, but it was truly unrealistic and inefficient to wait that long just to get a sandwich for lunch that I can whip up at home easily. In the Popeyes I went to, the drive-thru was closed and the sandwich could only be bought in-store, which is plainly quite irritating.
Meanwhile, in Chick-fil-A, sometimes it does get crowded, and there are always people packed waiting for their orders, but the staff is able to handle the situation quickly and provide everyone with their orders in no-time. The drive-thru is also always open as long as the regular store is operating, which makes it easier for those stopping by to pick up something during their lunch breaks or simply for just people on the go.
When looking at price, Chick-fil-A offers a classic sandwich for $4.29 and a classic spicy chicken sandwich for $4.65, while the regular and spicy Popeyes sandwiches are both $3.99 each. Even though Popeyes may be cheaper, those extra three dimes don’t make up for the extraordinary flavor and texture of the Chick-fil-A sandwich that lacks in the Popeyes sandwich.
However, I do recommend that you try the Popeyes sandwich. It is delicious and meant to please your comfort food cravings.
But would I go try the sandwich again? No, I wouldn’t. That is because I feel like that was a one-time experience that raised my expectations for the sandwich but disappointed me upon the first bite.
On the other hand, I would definitely go back to get the Chick-fil-A sandwich. It’s quick, easy, and delicious.
Just make sure not to go on a Sunday.
