FVHS senior activities and school-wide events such as graduation, prom and the Coronet Awards are unlikely to be held in their traditional format in order to protect the health of staff, students and their families during the COVID-19 pandemic. Here is an update of how and when FVHS will be holding such events.

Graduation

All 2020 graduating seniors will have a drive-through, no-contact graduation ceremony, according to Student Square correspondence to seniors from Huntington Beach Union High School District (HBUHSD) Director of Student Services Dan Bryan. Graduation ceremonies will also “feature a virtual video.”

“The drive though, individual graduation allows your school to honor you in a safe way, on stage, in front of your family,” Bryan wrote. ” The graduations our schools have thoughtfully planned will look different than the traditional ceremonies of years’ [sic] past, accounting for the safety and security of our students, staff, and families.”

FVHS, along with the five other HBUHSD campuses, will roll out a full graduation plan on May 21 with details about graduation cap, gown and award pick up as well as senior clearance and textbook and Chromebook drop off. The information will be on Student Square.

Prom

FVHS’ Assistant Student Body (ASB) will not be holding an in-person or virtual prom dance.

Voting for prom court, however, will continue virtually. Once the prom king and queen have been announced, FVHS administration will deliver their crowns and sashes in-person, according to ASB member junior Tara Lam.

More information on prom court voting can be found on ASB’s Instagram account @fvasb.

Mr. and Ms. Baron

ASB will be holding its annual Mr. Baron contest virtually with a twist: Ms. Baron! This is the first time that FVHS will have Ms. Baron. Students can check out ASB’s Instagram account @fvasb to see the content that Mr. and Ms. Barons contestants have created via video, as well as participate in the voting rounds.

2020 Coronet Awards

Students are recognized for their academic, athletic or artistic excellence through the Coronet awards, the highest honor possible at FVHS.

According to mail correspondence on April 20 from Principal Morgan Smith, the 2020 Coronet Awards will be held virtually. Pre-recorded videos announcing the nominees, finalists and winners of each Coronet will be released on Thursday, May 21 at 7 p.m.

Prior to the ceremony, nominees will receive an email with information on how to view the live stream, pre-show and aftershow. Students will also be notified about how and when they can collect their Coronet awards.
