Artist respond: What are Barons thankful for?

Slightly chilly weather, Starbucks pumpkin spiced lattes, fall leaves and Thanksgiving break are some of the things that define November us. Alongside the fall goods and activities we enjoy this month, it’s also November tradition to take some time to reflect on what we’re thankful for.

What’s unique about this year is the COVID-19 pandemic and how it has affected every aspect of our lives. It’s made us more conscious of what we value and take for granted. Baron Banner’s staff and FVHS students illustrate what they’re thankful for below.

I am so grateful to live a life where I don’t have to worry about the basic necessities. I’m able to live a life where I’m able to go out and enjoy pretty sunsets and flower fields without thinking about where my next meal will come from or if I’ll have enough money to buy a new coat for winter.

Every day I wake up and return to my desk where I see the same comforting sight. I’m reminded that I take the little things for granted— even having a desk is something I’m thankful for. Everything on my desk is something I value.

Whether they’re big or small memories, I like to cherish as many as I can. I’m grateful for all of the fun experiences I’ve captured with friends and family.

Over the past few years, I have constantly been reminded of the value of communities. Whether it’s a group of like-minded video creators or a tightly-knit family, my appreciation for the support and importance of others is above all.

I’ve always taken our earth for granted but the pandemic allowed me to appreciate it more. Whenever I can, I go on a walk to feel the cool breeze—something I never thought much about.

To me, life is like a long, never-ending puzzle. Along the way, you get pieces that are a perfect fit for you, and sometimes, you get pieces that don’t. I’m deeply grateful for everyone and everything that’s become a part of my life; they’ve become a part of my own puzzle that I cannot complete without.

I’m thankful for those who have empathy and are able to understand what others are going through. Recognizing and acknowledging others’ existence is something we all need to do. It has been a very long year for a lot of us, and being more empathetic is crucial.

I’m thankful for the little things. Just finding simplicity in the little moments with those we love—we take it for granted. Sometimes it takes small steps to see the bigger picture. Focus on the little things, find beauty in them, and one day, you’ll see the bigger picture.

I am grateful for my sister, no matter how annoying she is. She puts up with me and surprisingly, still manages to not hold a grudge. My sister is always by my side even five minutes after an argument.

To the warriors who threw themselves into the line of fire for our salvation: I am grateful for you.

The way communities have come together to support those in need and stand up for just causes is truly inspirational. I believe this year has made people see life through a different lens. I’m grateful for the outpouring of love, support, and empathy that shine through so many fears and struggles.

This Thanksgiving, I am thankful for our essential workers such as teachers, grocery store employees, and healthcare workers who are working extra hard to make this year as normal as possible despite everything going on.
