Although COVID-19 regulations may have limited the number of activities people can do outdoors, that hasn’t stopped Fountain Valley High School students and staff from finding fun, productive and unique ways to spend this two-week vacation.
Here are some Barons’ exciting plans for the break.

“What I am looking forward to [during winter break] is my birthday. It’s during the same period of time as Christmas so I get two holidays essentially. I probably am going to invite a friend over and we are going to watch a movie on my lawn. Also I probably just watch [TV] and read for most of the break. Just kind of lounging around and relaxing and a bit of freedom from school work,” freshman Maya Bodla said.
“I’m so excited that winter break is finally here. Every year me and my cousins come over to each other’s houses to celebrate together! Even though we don’t celebrate Christmas in the religious sense we still love decorating our tree and giving presents. With COVID-19 this year we will still be meeting each other because we have all been staying safe [plus] quarantining in our own houses, so we can be safe when we all get together. I hope this holiday season everyone celebrates safely just like my family. Can’t wait for winter break!” sophomore Taniya Khattra said.
“Because of quarantine, I plan to spend most of my time at home playing games or going to work. I also plan to sleep in every day I can,” senior Lara Elkazzaz said.
“I’m definitely looking forward to spending a lot of quality time with my family just hanging out at home. Typically we like to visit new local places over winter break, but with the pandemic still going we don’t have much planned, but I’m hoping we will at least get up to the mountains where my mother-in-law has a cabin we stay at, fingers crossed it finally snows this season. I am also looking forward to getting some of my own personal art work done. Having that extra time away from work allows me to really get into that process without too much interruption and just get work done without getting side tracked. I have a couple projects that I’m excited to finally get finished that have been on the [back burner] for a couple years now.” visual arts teacher and Yearbook advisor Tony Pash said.
“Over the next two weeks I’m looking forward to being away from a computer screen, reading late into the night, a second attempt at potty training my 3-year old, driving around to look at Christmas lights, watching some terrible Hallmark movies, moving my 10-month old into her own room, and enjoying all of the time off with my family!” math teacher Leslie Murray said.
