The Lady Barons varsity softball wasn’t able to beat Ocean View’s Seahawks with a final score of 0-3 on Monday.

A great effort was made by sophomore Abby Hasty who was able to steal second and third base in the first inning.

When it was Ocean View’s turn at bat, Hasty was also able to get the third out by making an effortless catch during the first inning as well.

When it came down to putting pressure on Ocean View at-bat, the Lady Barons’ pitching wasn’t able to prevent Ocean View from scoring the game-winning home runs.

“[It] did not go as planned. Just lack of adjustments. We need to have better pitch selection and not [swing] balls out of the strike zone” Head Coach Rick Aldrich said.

During the first four innings of the game, it looked like both teams would end with a score of 0-0, with the Barons hardly allowing the Seahawks to make it past second base.

Ocean View was able to break this by a bunt to first base and having another player from third base take home, scoring the first of three home runs from Ocean View in the fifth inning.

Ocean View covered a lot of ground when running bases, with one of their players from second base running all the way home and ultimately making the score 0-3 in the sixth inning.

It wasn’t just pitching that was the issue to many of the players. Fountain Valley’s performance at-bat was also filled with some critique.

“I think we could have done better. We had a lot of defensive errors and hitting wasn’t on today” freshman Jenna Bixler said.

“I’m confident that we’ll be able to come back out on [Wednesday]; make those adjustments, and hopefully take the win” senior Brooke Pace said.

With a loss like this, the Lady Barons are determined to do better during their next game against Edison on Wednesday.
