Fountain Valley’s varsity softball defeated the Edison Chargers on Tuesday with a tight score of 9-8.
The game was mostly led by the Chargers dominating the first six innings.
Despite the Chargers’ great advances on offense, the Barons were still able to make key plays on defense, with one of them being from senior Brooke Pace who made a pass to first from shortstop, taking away the Chargers’ opportunity to make key runs with their loaded bases in the fourth inning.
Things were starting to look up for the Barons in the sixth inning when senior Samara Ortega hit the ball out of the right field, allowing her to score a home run along with her teammate freshman Kira Velasco also making a run, bringing the score 3-6.
“I thought the game went very well,” Ortega said. “We were down in the middle of the game, but at the end of the game we all came together as a team, and that was the best time. We practiced for this for weeks, and we finally won Edison.”
The Chargers weren’t going to end the game without their very own out-of-the-field home run.
One of their players was also able to hit a home run out of the left field, making the score 3-8 in the seventh inning.
The Barons didn’t let the Chargers faze them despite the short amount of time they had left. They were giving it their all even with the Chargers’ five-point lead at the beginning of the seventh inning.
“We were down at first, but we all worked together, and we put up a fight” senior CJ Garcia said.
The Lady Barons were looking for a miracle in the seventh inning, and they got it when Garcia was the last at-bat.
With the time ticking, Garcia was able to hit the ball out of the left field, allowing her a home run along with her teammates who were all locked and loaded on all the bases.
This finalized the score of 9-8.
