TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) released their fourth Korean language Extended Play (EP), “Minisode 2: Thursday’s Child” on May 9. With the release of this EP, TXT has officially departed into a darker and edgier concept, which they touched on a little with their last album, “The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE,” while still referencing some of their old songs at the same time.

TXT debuted two years ago on March 4 with the members Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun and Hueningkai. The bright and poppier concept they started off with with their debut single “Crown” has gradually transitioned into what we see in their newest single “Good Boy Gone Bad.”

“OPENING SEQUENCE”

“Opening Sequence” is, as the name implies, the first song in this album. From this song alone, we can see a departure from their previous sounds into the edgier one they have now. The song details the reminiscence of a first break up and the distress and emotions that come with it. The song combines the beat drops and the loudness of a typical KPOP song with rhythm and blues.

“GOOD BOY GONE BAD”

The title track of the album, “Good Boy Gone Bad,” shows the transformation a bitter break up can put someone through. This break up song is not full of nostalgia or fond memories, but is filled with the opposite. The song is made up of angst. raw heartbreak and anger. The song uses hip-hop and rock sounds to fit this mood. The chanting in the chorus of “good boy gone bad” is definitely catchy and easy to remember.

“TRUST FUND BABY”

“Trust Fund Baby” tells the story of a boy who will never be able to live the love of a “trust fund baby” through an R&B/soul beat. The protagonist in the song laments the life he’ll never be able to have due to the fact he doesn’t have any of the money that would allow him to be that. If only he was a trust fund baby, then their relationship would be happy and not failing.

“LONELY BOY”

Another R&B song, “Lonely Boy,” is sung by a subunit of members Yeonjun and Huening Kai. This song is another story, telling another tale of a boy who only has regret left from his relationship. The only thing that he has left from  it is a tattoo on his ring finger, which now symbolizes loss, regret and resignation. Following the theme of the album, this song is equally edgy and has a depressing tone.

“THURSDAY’S CHILD HAS FAR TO GO”

“Thursday’s Child Has Far To Go” is sung by a subunit of members Soobin, Taehyun and Beomgyu. The song is more reminiscent of older TXT songs and provides an upbeat and electronic KPOP beat. This song ends the album on more of an optimistic note, where the protagonist overcomes the regrets and sadness from his breakup and decides he has more to come in life and has far to go.
