Monday night was senior night for the Barons’ girls’ volleyball team, and despite the loss of 0-3, the support from friends and family for the team shone throughout the night and the game.
Before the game, the Barons had a senior night ceremony, where each of the seniors was highlighted, given flowers and received endless amounts of cheers from friends and family roaring in the crowd.
The seniors highlighted were Talia Lemmons, Judy Juhala, Myla Chi, Josie Templin, London Braithwaite and Lauren Min.
To start off the game, the Barons missed their first serves, giving points to the other team. But afterward, the team focused their mentality on fixing and gaining back points that they had lost.
Templin communicated with her team throughout the first set, moving around, diving and returning the fierce attacks the Vikings sent against them.
The team cheered constantly for their fellow teammates from the sidelines throughout all of the sets.
The Barons, despite their valiant fight and great communication, lost 14-25. However, the team recovered and looked forward to the next set.
As set two began, the players were more ready than ever.
Seniors Juhala and Templin made fast and quick dives to save the ball and return it over the net.
The scores between the two teams were close, with long-lasting rallies and great communication between both teams.
“I think we did a good job adjusting and returning the serves throughout the game,” Templin said.
Near the end of the second set, the Barons started a steady streak of winning rallies against the Vikings and gaining points, but it was still a close game.
Despite the hard fight, the Barons lost the second set 22-25.
Throughout the third set, the Barons continued to capture a fight with longer rallies, intense saves and aces, but by the end, the Barons lost 17-25, and the final score hit 0-3.
Despite the loss, the girls showed their sportsmanship, fight and support for their teammates.
After the game, Min reflected on the Barons’ victories.
“Although we had a rocky start in the beginning we managed to fix our mistakes and stayed consistent,” Min said.
