We’ve all heard of senioritis.
The inevitable, inescapable, bound-to-happen phenomenon haunts underclassmen throughout their pre-senior high school years.
As seniors handle college applications on top of finals preparation, it may be tempting to drop everything and do nothing through the final months of high school. But while this universal experience may seem appealing to a soon-to-be high school graduate, it is important to stay motivated and focused throughout this time to make the most of the last year.
Here are some tips to help overcome senioritis.
Set goals and create a plan
It can be easy to lose sight of your goals when you are feeling burned out or unmotivated. Take some time to reflect on your long-term goals and create a plan for how you will achieve them. This could include setting short-term goals for each week or month, and breaking larger tasks down into smaller, manageable steps.
Stay organized and manage time effectively
As the end of the school year approaches, it is important to stay organized and manage your time wisely. This means setting aside dedicated time each day for studying and completing assignments, and keeping a calendar or planner to stay on track.
Using resources such as “Tweek” can be helpful to keep a list of your daily to-dos and any miscellaneous evergreen tasks as well. By making it a habit to update and check off your tasks as you go throughout your day, your productivity levels will undoubtedly increase.
Keep focused
It can be tempting to tune out in your final months of high school, but staying engaged in your classes can help to keep you motivated to finish strong for the school year.
Through notes, insightful questions and possibly an iced cup of coffee, maintaining focus in all classes will become easier to do over time, resulting in productive studying habits and high test scores!
Seek support
If you are struggling with burnout, reaching out to others and seeking support can be helpful. Talking to your friends, parents and teachers about how you are feeling is important as bottling up feelings is an unhealthy habit. When going through a difficult period, welcoming peers can offer guidance and support.
Remember the end goal
At the end of the day, when you are feeling unmotivated to continue, remind yourself what your end goal is. Keeping your future in mind is important as it is a healthy reminder and motivator to keep pushing through the final months of high school. Ultimately, your senior year should end on the best note, as slacking off now can impact your goals in the long run.
