Every year, as October rolls around, so does the season for Homecoming (HOCO) and the excitement that comes with Friday Night Lights. Flashing lights, sparkling dresses and a million pictures on film cameras — but this year, HOCO is extra special for these seniors. Chosen by the Fountain Valley High School (FVHS) students these last few days, 10 outstanding seniors have been voted as the top five boys and girls in their respective categories.
Amongst more than hundreds of other students, the Kings and Queens were nominated through two rounds of online voting. This year’s King lineup includes Caleb Pham, George Alam, Ian Valle, Joshua Merill and Peter Thinh. The Queen lineup includes Ava Tessier, Evelyn Nguy, Isabella Abrahams, Joycemary Dang and Vy Nguyen.
Being on the Homecoming Court is a huge honor for the royalties. Each representing their own aspect of the Baron community, these distinguished Kings and Queens are the pride and faces of FVHS. With that said, here’s what the 2023 Homecoming Court feels about being on the HOCO Court.

“I’m beyond honored to have been elected to be on HOCO Court! My sisters were both on HOCO Court when they were at FVHS, and I’m excited for this cool new experience,” senior Joycemary Dang said. Outside of school, Dang enjoys planning events and staying involved in the community through ASB and other clubs, volunteering at her church and playing volleyball, especially beach volleyball. “It’s exciting for sure! Being up there with some of my friends- Josh, Peter, Izzy, and Joyce is definitely cool,” senior George Alam said. Outside of school, Alam enjoys watching all sports, whether college or professional; being out with friends and trying new things. “Being on court is pretty cool! That’s one item crossed off my bucket list,” senior Vy Nguyen said. Outside of school, Nguyen enjoys getting Ayce sushi with her friends, going ice skating, and singing together at their karaoke parties. Additionally, she enjoys taking a quite hike by Crytal Cove beach and going to a cute cafe to study. “It’s pretty hype because Peter and I thought it would be so awesome if we both made it on court, and then we actually pulled it off. It’s also funny because I never thought I would do this, but then I went for it for kicks and giggles and now it’s totally fun,” senior Joshua Merill said. Outside of school, Merill enjoys playing waterpolo, cook and bake and spending quality time with those he loves. “I feel super excited, it’s definitely a different experience but I enjoy being with my friends on court and getting closer with the girls,” senior Evelyn Nguy said. Outside of school, Nguy loves watching movies with her friends on the couch, watching sunsets anywhere and doing nothing. “I’m just grateful for the people who have supported me,” senior Ian Valle said. Outside of school, Valle enjoys reading, especially about business, personal development, as well as the Bible. “I am so honored to be on court with my best friends George and Josh! It’s so much fun doing the lunchtime activities and looking forward to the assembly when we dance,” senior Peter Thinh said. Outside of school, Thinh enjoyrs spending time with friends, creating unforgettable memories and playing sports. “I was very excited to hear I got on HOCO Court. It was a big shock to me- I didn’t think I would be in top 5,” senior Ava Tessier said. Outside of school Tessier enjoys dancing and spending as much time as she could with her friends and family. “I am very excited to be on Court. With all the events like the LTA’s, HOCO Assembly, and HOCO halftime show, I have a lot to look forward to as these are things not many get to participate in. Along with just getting onto court, I was very happy to find out that I was voted for,” senior Caleb Pham said. Outside of school, Pham enjoys doing work as the Parliamentarian and Executive of the Spirit Commision and being a part of the school’s diving team.
“I honestly was so surprised when I found out I made HOCO Court! I’m so excited to be able to have the opportunity- I remember watching the older girls when I was younger and thinking how fun it would be if I were to be able to do that. I love being able to spend time with my friends and grow closer to them during this time,” senior Isabella Abrahams said. Outside of school, Abrahams enjoy going to the beach, traveling and practicing track and field.
