As October comes to a close, many people are already looking forward to the next holiday. Sadly, most people skip Thanksgiving festivities to focus on the biggest holiday of the year: Christmas.
The holiday season is upon us, as even Starbucks has already debuted their Christmas flavors. The lights, sounds, and smells of Christmas have infiltrated our senses. This is especially true when it comes to Christmas music.
The flurry of festivities always erupts the infamous argument: should Christmas music be played before December?
To settle this debate, let’s hear the opinions of Fountain Valley High School (FVHS) students on the music debacle.
“My dad does not let us play Christmas music until after Thanksgiving dinner … That’s how I grew up,” junior Noah Richardson said. “I love [Christmas music]. I live for it. You know, I’m in the Christmas mood right now … There’s nothing to look forward to besides Christmas. So I’m kind of in that spirit,” sophomore Madison Ho said. “[Christmas music] should not be played till after the pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving … then I’ll [listen to] only Christmas music and go crazy,” freshman Elijah Merrill said. “Christmas is just so happy and it spreads cheer. So like? Why not? Why wouldn’t you play it before? … I think there’s about 53 days until Christmas. We’re counting down,” freshman Gwen Tanner said. “I think it’s fine. You know, I think after Halloween we should start putting on Christmas music … Because like that’s the only main holiday that’s next up. I mean, there’s Thanksgiving but you should just still play Christmas music,” sophomore Andres Rodriguez said. “It’s the holiday season [from] November to December. [It’s] holiday season once October is over. That’s it. It’s Christmas season now,” freshman Kira Leno said. “It’s amazing. I love that holiday spirit. It makes me feel Christmas-y. It makes me feel like Santa Claus. It’s the overall spirit like you know … it feels nice and the lights and stuff, you know, in front of the houses,” junior Imaan Hosseinali said. “I think it’s actually a positive thing for the school and the community. So yeah, I have a pretty positive outlook on it,” junior John Nguyen said. “I think it’s dumb. Because like, that’s for December, not November … I’m like having Thanksgiving and I’m hearing like Mariah Carey. I don’t want to hear that,” junior Trent Smith said.
When asked if Christmas music should be played before December, the responses may vary, but everyone seems to have a distinct opinion about this issue.
