On Tuesday, Dec. 19, girls’ soccer fell in a match with Rosary Academy Royals, losing 0-4. The home game started at 3 p.m. and ended at 4:30 p.m.
During the first half of the game, despite the Barons pushing through Rosemary’s strong offense, the Barons lost 0-2. The game was intense, with Rosary closing in on defensive players and the goalie.
“We struggled defensively and gave up too many goals,” girls’ soccer coach Alyson Smith said.
In the course of the second half of the heated match, the Barons became focused on using offensive tactics, persisting against the Royals. The ball was passed back and forth, eventually leading to Rosary ending the half with a score of 0-2.
Although the Barons failed to score a goal, the offense improved at the end of the second half, successfully making close goals, but ultimately falling short.
Rosary proved to be a fierce competition throughout the tournament as a Royal and a Baron were injured at the height of the match. A Rosary player was injured in the knee and carried off the field by her coach. In a separate circumstance, a Baron tripped, fell and suffered an injury. Not only were these the cases, but many casualties happened on the field.
At the end of the match, the Baron’s morale was low after they suffered a devastating loss against Rosary.
When asked about the teams’ performance, Smith expressed disappointment in play, expecting a different outcome. Smith believes the team needed to focus on better offense decision-making, marking the box and speed of play.
“We’re disappointed with this result against the rosary. We didn’t we didn’t play the way we’ve been playing in preseason and we need to do better,” Smith said.
The Barons will play another home game on Saturday, Jan. 6, at 3 p.m.
