Roaming Reporter: Does compatible music taste increase attraction amongst FVHS students?

By Ashley Trinh

Music has been a source of comfort and motivation in students’ lives for years. Upon entering Fountain Valley High School (FVHS), it is seemingly impossible to roam around without seeing a student with headphones or earbuds in.

As music continues integrating into students’ daily routines, many students have grown an emotional connection and bond with the songs they relate to; thus influencing their mood and perception of other people. This begs the question:

Do FVHS students think that having a compatible music taste with someone makes them more attractive?

Music is an art form that teenagers find solace in while they mature and navigate through a strenuous part of their adolescence. Music communicates stories, feelings and needs. Music helps them feel understood and helps them understand others as well.

Therefore, the verdict is that having compatible music tastes with someone is likely to increase students’ attraction to their love interests. Spending time bonding over songs that elicit important memories or experiences is a catalyst for developing a stronger emotional connection to your significant other. By sharing certain thoughts, experiences, and feelings that a certain artist or song reminds you of, you may learn more about yourself and about your (potential) spouse as well.

What song will you be sharing with your significant other?
