When people refer to Europe, they tend to talk about it very generally, but it has a variety of beautiful countries located in the vast continent. Although those countries are wonderful year-round, they’re especially known for their winter holiday celebrations.
Most cities in Europe have a main square, where they set up numerous food and vendor stands to celebrate the holidays. As you walk around, you can experience the wondrous feeling in the air, smell the toasty hot chocolate and eat savory pretzels, while listening to mellow live music as you enjoy the colorful decorations.
The food stands have a multitude of food and drink options for all ages. If you are in need of a snack, you can grab some smoked chestnuts or a Kartoffelpuffer, a cross between a hashbrown and a potato pancake. If you feel as though you want something more than a little snack, have a hot dog stuffed with cheese, a loaded potato or some of their famous schnitzel. If you’re still hungry after a delicious treat, indulge your sweet tooth by having some gingerbread, a couple of chocolate-coated marshmallows, and if you’re of age, some mulled wine.
The vendor carts along the streets are filled with countless decorations and souvenirs. Almost all the things that are sold are handmade by the vendors, displaying creativity and hard work in each item. Some sell traditional German clothing such as the Lederhosen, traditional leather breeches worn by both men and women.
These cozy markets create a sense of community and comfort for the locals and travelers. These markets are annual, giving families and friends an opportunity to come together and delight in each other’s company. They allow them to bond over charming ornaments and delectable treats in a setting that feels just like home.
