The fashion trend started with popular shoe brands launching their ballet-inspired sneakers such as the Puma Speedcat, Adidas Taekwondo Mei Ballet and Onitsuka Tiger 66 Ballet Flats. The most successful launch was probably Vivaia’s Cristina Lace-Up Satin Sneakerinas, which were worn by American model Bella Hadid at Paris Fashion Week in 2025.
WHAT ARE SNEAKERINAS?
In comparison to regular sneakers, sneakerinas offer a softer cushioned insole for comfort and are easier to put on. Their design is also more lightweight and less bulky, making it more style-able for elegant and delicate outfits. And compared to ballerina flats, they are more casual and offer more foot support for all day wear.
To go deeper into the shoe’s analysis, sneakerinas combine the outer rubber sole of a sneaker with the soft fabrics of a ballerina flat like satin or lambskin for the upper. According to the Robb Report, sales of sneakers that have “ballerina” or “ballet” in their names increased by more than one thousand percent between February and March of this year. This shows that the trend is carried by many customers in the market as they are fascinated by this new style of fashion.
