From school to the mall, vintage clothing seems to be seen everywhere these days. Ever since Hollister’s 2000s vault release in 2025, everyone seems to want to wear the same long-sleeve Henley with the lace camisole.

WHAT IS VINTAGE?

Most people define vintage clothing as items over 15 years old. One example would be Hollister’s clothes sold during their vault release, which were inspired by the same clothes they sold in the 2000s to 2010s.

For some, it’s the quality of the new clothing released compared to before. For others, it’s a choice to switch to more sustainable, eco-friendly options. It may even be the way vintage clothing is always shown online by influencers and content creators on platforms such as Instagram and TikTok.

Recently, influencers have posted videos showcasing their recent “thrifts” from stores or fashion resale websites like Depop. The clothes worn also show individuality with unique, one-of-a-kind pieces.

WHAT IS CURRENTLY POPULAR?

Currently, some popular vintage pieces include leather jackets and band tees, such as the Rolling Stones. Denim jackets and low-rise jeans have also been seen making a comeback, along with cable-knit sweaters.

However, one of the most popular reasons is the nostalgic feel when wearing these types of clothes. Wearing such clothes brings back memories of the “pre-smartphone life” and the optimism many feel they had back then, compared to now.

WILL IT STAY IN STYLE?

The question is, will vintage clothing stay in style? While many believe the ethics and sustainability of the clothes will keep it, some say it’s only a trend that will be over before we blink.

Like most trends, fast fashion quickly jumped on the bandwagon to produce multiple “vintage” pieces. However, people are leaning towards sustainability with this trend, and not buying new clothes, therefore helping reduce waste.

Whichever the case, the current love for vintage clothing has helped bring back a timeless style while reducing the waste caused by fast fashion.
