Why I love Fortnite

I love Fortnite.

Fortnite is an online video game centered around being the last person standing. You can visit any location on the map while collecting guns, medkits and special abilities along the way. If you encounter another player, you face off, and whoever wins obtains the items in the loser’s inventory. The loser is sent back to the lobby to wait for another game to start.

With over 230 million monthly active players, Fortnite is one of the most popular battle royale games. And it’s especially popular between me and my friends.

We play every weekend for hours at a time. We’ll call simultaneously just to yell at each other through our phones and scream at the TV when we get killed by a bot. It’s the one thing I look forward to, and, most of the time, the most exciting part of my weekend.

I’m constantly asking my friends to download Fortnite to play with me, and I’m always trying to explain to them why it’s such a great game. Here’s why I love Fortnite.

The battle pass changed the world.

Even though Fortnite didn’t invent the battle pass, they’ve seen the most success come from it. The battle pass is essentially a package that you buy with V-Bucks (in-game currency) and for every 10 levels or so, you unlock a new batch of prizes. These prizes include but are not limited to, gliders, swords, back bling and skins. You can purchase each item with the battle stars you get for completing a level.

First off, the battle pass is completely worth it if you’re going to use it. If you’re only logging on every so often, then the battle pass isn’t going to do you much good. You only get items if you keep moving up levels, so if you’re not advancing, then you won’t get any items. It would be a waste of V-bucks.

If you are going to play like a maniac, like me, then it’s more than worth it. You’ll get skins that you can change every time you play, and you’ll get V-Bucks too, which will help you recoup the funds you spent initially to buy the battle pass.

Fortnite is multiplayer

Doing something with others is almost always more fun than doing it alone. That’s why Fortnite is at its peak. You can play with your friends in duos, trios or squads against other people. When I play by myself, I usually just complete quests, try to level up and get new items. Fortnite is fun, but after a while of playing by yourself, you want somebody to share the Victory Royales with. Playing with friends makes that possible.

When I play with my friends, there’s a lot of yelling, laughing and more yelling. Yelling out of frustration — and yelling out of pure joy. For example, when a huge group of sweats (players who try too hard) comes upon us, and we take ‘em down. Or when we all hop in a car together, but the one driving starts driving us off cliffs and wading through water.

It’s a lot of fun. That’s the only way to describe it. It’s not something to take too seriously because it really is just a game. But that doesn’t mean that it can’t be entertaining and engaging.

Fortnite is customizable

As I previously mentioned, the battle pass is a huge part of Fortnite. What comes with that, though, is the ability to customize your avatar to the max. If you buy the battle pass, you’ll have access to an extensive collection of skins and accessories that you can use to make your character look unique. Sure, you may have the same skin as somebody else, but are they wearing the same backpack? Do they have the same glider equipped? Probably not.

You can also equip different emotes, lobby songs and loading screens, making your personal experience unique.

I love Fortnite

Fortnite has honestly changed my life for the better. As with all new interests, I have a new group of people that I can connect with through this game. We share common references and inside jokes that I maybe wouldn’t have gotten if I didn’t play Fortnite. I can use Fortnite as a tool to help build friendships as well. I may not know you very well, but we can play Fortnite together and bond over the fact that we both think that the Eagle Eye Huntress DMR is overrated. (It is.)

Many people might disagree with my opinion, and to them, I say: shame on you. Why wouldn’t you want to play a game that allows you to play as any character you want, lets you free roam and to play with your friends? I guess what I’m trying to say is, I really enjoy playing Fortnite, so much so to write about it. But, this is just my opinion. I encourage you to please, play Fortnite for yourself and find out what it’s all about. Plus, it’s free!
