An enthusiastic writer, reader and artist, one of Baron Banner’s latest additions is sure to bring excitement all around.
Katie Chan, a freshman at Fountain Valley High School (FVHS), is ready to embark on her journey through journalism with her biggest inspiration (her sister) by her side (quite literally, they sit two seats away from each other).
Aiming for the highest, Chan hopes to be a Photography Manager here at Baron Banner, citing her dad’s role in introducing her to the field.
“[I would] probably [choose] photography,” Chan said. “My dad is a photographer and I really want to explore that field. I want to learn more about composition.”
Speaking of her family, Chan feels that her older sister is her biggest inspiration.
“[My biggest inspiration is] probably my sister, because we’re really close in general. But the things she does, like being a hard worker or the kind, loving person she is, is where I look up to her,” Chan said. “I just hope I can be like her; I even took all the same classes she took.”
Despite being a freshman, Chan’s day is already full of bustling activities.
“First, I go to the tutoring club because I’ll usually need help on math,” Chan said. “And then I’ll go to Pep Squad practice. I’m on Song, so a lot of times I have competition practices where we work on routines to compete at competitions, or other times we’ll prepare for games and I’ll have to practice that.”
One thing you won’t see Chan doing, however, is chewing loudly—being one of her pet peeves, she described it as the thing that annoys her the most
“I think that chewing, a lot of times, stresses me out. Even when my family chews, I start [freaking] out. I just don’t like hearing the saliva sloshing around; I feel like it’s kind of gross,” Chan said.
Chan hopes to help people in Baron Banner by just being herself. Bringing her positive attitude along with her, she wants to show students’ strengths by showcasing them in her articles and photos.
“I hope to highlight students’ strengths,” Chan said. “And I feel like a lot of people have a story to tell, and it’s important to showcase [FVHS] students. Hopefully I can take pictures and show what [we] have to offer.”
Finally, as for her dream college, Chan hopes to get into either University of California San Diego (UCSD) as a medical or business major, although she’s open to changing it if needed.
“I’m kind of undecided right now, but I probably want to major in the medical or business field at UCSD,” Chan said.
With a camera by her side and a pen in her hand, it’s almost certain you’ll see Chan’s name plastered all over the Baron Banner website.
