On Tuesday, April 24th, our Barons swim team had their last dual meet of the season against the Newport Harbor Sailors. Overall, the Barons did not fare well in the meet with the many disqualifications that were posted on the scoreboard. The girls lost 60-108 and the boys lost 58-112.
The girls did not fare well during the meet as Sarah Yao (’14) is still out due to sickness. Makenna Dubois (’14) also was sick during the meet and Katelyn Farrow (’14) left early in the meet. Jaime Dang (’13) had disqualifications in both individual events: 200-yard IM and 100-yard fly.
In spite of these unfortunate events in the girls meet, Jennifer Schulman (’13) posted a 2nd place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a 2:01.56, Sonia Djafri (’13) touched 2nd in the 500-yard freestyle with a 5:36.34, and Taylor Johnson (’12) took 1st place in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles.
As for the boys, they sparked an improvement from last year’s dual meet with the Sailors. However, they were edged in many of their races. Cory Nguyen (’13) touched 1st in the 100-yard freestyle posting a time of 49.58, which is eight one-hundredths off the CIF-SS consideration cut. Alex Kryger (’12) possibly attained the cut in the 200-yard IM, but was considered an unofficial time due to touchpad issues. In the 100-yard backstroke, the boys stole the 1st and 2nd places to collect 10 points in the event.
Next week, they swim team has their Sunset League Championship Meet at Newport Harbor High School. The varsity prelims meet will be on Wednesday and the finals meet is on Friday. Good luck Barons!
