Despite the Barons’ loss against Newport Harbor during the homecoming game, the night was filled with excitement for the announcement of homecoming king and queen.
ASB members and student volunteers worked quickly to set up the field for the announcement, slated to take place at half-time. The field was ready within minutes and decorated with race car flags and signs to highlight the theme of “A Dash to the Dance Floor”.
The homecoming court, which included five senior boys and five senior girls, walked along the bleachers to the other side. As each of their names was called, they received their own go-kart to get to the red carpet.
Escorted by a parent, the homecoming court nominees were cheered on by family and friends. The audience chanted the names of their favorites so loudly that the announcer’s voice could barely be heard over the noise.
Finally, as all of the homecoming court made their way to the podium, an anxious silence fell over the crowd and people were rising in their seats to catch a glimpse of the nominees.
Then, “Your homecoming king and queen of 2013 are Max Chern and Jessica Le!”
The crowd screamed and clapped, and people ran over and lined up against the fence to congratulate the winners and other contestants.
Although some were disappointed with the results of the game, the entire school was happy to welcome their new homecoming king and queen, Max Chern and Jessica Le.
