The Barons lost to Los Alamitos 21-28 on Friday night at Westminster High School.
The first quarter consisted of a head-to-head battle, with no touchdowns made.
Los Al put the first points on the board 5 minutes into the first quarter. After the Los Al touchdown, Jason Baker (’13) made a 7 yard touchdown with a pass from quarterback Chris D’entremont (’13), followed with a perfect kick from Derek Huynen (’13). Within seconds of the touchdown by the Barons, Los Al came out with another touchdown putting the Barons behind. In the last 30 seconds of the quarter, Ryan Finley (’13) managed to get 7 more points with another pass from Chris D’entremont (’13) to tie the score up 14-14.
Los Alamitos put away another off-guard touchdown in the middle of the third quarter. Again with 30 seconds left before the quarter ended, Wyatt Christensen (’13) made a 2 yard run to even up the score of 21-21.
The Barons did not have an answer to the Griffins’ final touchdown and field goal, coming up just shy of a win for the third time in Sunset League play.
The next football game is on October 26th at 7 p.m. against Edison at OCC, so come out and pack the stadium for another battle with the Chargers as the Barons fight back for the mighty bell.
In a spirited fundraiser called Think Pink, FVHS and Los Alamitos competed to see which school could raise more money to help breast cancer. The schools tied, raising $3000 each.
To spice up the competition, the schools decided on a bet. The losing school’s principal would kiss a pig at the football game. Since they both raised the same amount of money, Mr. Hertzfield and Mr. Arnold, former superintendent of FVHS puckered up at halftime.
All the money went to Susan G. Komen and came from selling pink shirts and donations. Miss Woods, a breast cancer survivor, was the head of this donation project. Due to her passion in raising money for the cause, she put in a lot of hard work to bring a simple fundraiser into a school-wide event.
“I’ve never seen so many people be united.” Sarah Tang (13′) says, “Even the guys were wearing pink. I thought it was really cool that our entire school was pink on Friday.”
There was no winner in the amount of donations, but “Fountain Valley owned Los Al in school spirit.” Julie Jackson (13′), a member of ASB says.
“I went to the game and it was so amazing, I wanted to cry.” Gabby Chambers (13′) says, laughing. “So many people came! There was so much spirit, it made me so happy.”
