The Dance team’s annual Winter Dance Show was held in the gym last Sunday.
The room was packed with parents and students who came to support the Dance Team. The performance featured all of the upcoming dances prepared for competition in this upcoming season, as well as the dances previously performed at the Glow Show and Homecoming Assembly.
“Each of the team members is very talented and they all put on a great show,” Brittanie Le (’16) said. “It was amazing and I’m looking forward to the next show.”
Led by captain Alyssa Loeffelman and Haley Richartz, the team put in their best effort for each piece. Although three of their members, Peter Pham, Haley Richartz and Emily Roberts were not able to perform due to injuries, they will be ready for the competition.
“It was a shame that three of our members were not able to perform with us due to their injuries. But even so, we all did our best and we definitely did it for them,” said Ann Vu (’13), the team’s social and communications captain.
The show also included the Christmas Holiday Finale, which was performed during the annual FV Tree Lighting. “I think one of the best highlights was the Christmas Holiday Finale. It was choreographed by our very own dancers. I think we all had a really good time performing that piece because it came from the entire team,” said Vu.
“I think it went perfect. It was the first time for some of us performing the show and we did a really good job,” noted team member Mia Opah (’15).
As competition season approaches, the team is tightening up anything that needs even the slightest bit of work.
“I think I need to improve on timing, get used to the music so that the dance can pull out beautifully,” said Opah, while Alena Huynh (’15) added, “I will definitely work on sharpening my moves, my facial expression, and most importantly to just enjoy the dance!”
Having a passionate team coupled with training by three experienced coaches–Stacy Coneley, Tara Pokorney and Kelela Batinga–the dance team is looking forward to a great season.
Team advisor Jennifer Allen said, “I think that with a large group, lots of new members and members from last year, we have an equal or greater chance and potential that we have in all the last competitions. They are not competing in another month-and-a-half, but to be that prepared this early of the season shows how much potential that they have.”
