Students in Life Management 2 classes simulated job interviews for a project last Thursday and Friday in order to prepare students for their future careers.
“[The interview] was good, kind of eye opening. It prepared me for what is actually to come in the future,” said Life Management student Frank Salucci (‘14).
Students acted as they would during a real job interview. They were told to prepare a resume, a cover letter, and a letter of recommendation. On the day of their interviews, they also had to wear appropriate attire.
Because the interviews were conducted at school, some felt that the project had room for improvement. “It was kind of weird that it was at school. Being in a Foods lab, it wasn’t the right atmosphere,” said Salucci.
On the other hand, the familiar school environment allowed other students to relax.
“Being at school did give it a sense of comfort that a normal interview wouldn’t have,” said Marina Villanueva (‘13).
Some of the interviews were one-on-one, while others were done in groups. The interviews were administered by a former policeman, a social worker, and the school principal’s secretary, during which the students learned about answering questions correctly and making eye contact.
“Overall, I think that this project was a very helpful and essential experience for growing up and learning to live on your own,” said Kyle Dinsmore (‘13).
